World Book Day 2025 celebrations at Bosco World Book Day is celebrated annually and this year fell on Thursday 6th March 2025. Every reader is different, and there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy reading. At Bosco, we made reading fun with bookish activities in the library and school staff dressing up as fictional characters.
Did you know that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than family circumstances, parents’ educational background or income.* (*OECD)
That’s why #WorldBookDay encourages everyone to let go of pressure and expectations to support children to enjoy reading. #ReadYourWay @worldbookdayuk
To celebrate reading, all students received £1 WBD book tokens during form time in the run up to World Book Day and on the day, staff brought a whole host of book characters to life around the building – where you lucky enough to spot Galinda and Elphaba, the Tin Man, DC superheroes and villains (Superman, Supergirl, Batgirl and Poison Ivy), Medusa, ET, Veruca Salt, Jane Austen, the Mad Hatter, Mr Men and Little Miss, Captain Hook, Where’s Wally, Pink Panther, Harry Potter characters, Thing 1 & 2, Greatest Show-women, Katniss Everdeen, a Little Piggy, the Big Bad Wolf and Red Riding Hood, Wednesday Adams or Marley’s Ghost?
In the library there was an epic 1,000 books giveaway and after school students where invited to attend the World Book Day party - students could get dressed up and complete World Book Day themed activities; students could enter the Design a National Book Token Competition, colour in a WBD bookmark and test their bookish knowledge with the ‘Emoji Quiz’ – students had to decipher the book titles from the emoji clues.
Well done to our amazing runners up Levi C. 11C, Isla D. 7T and Helena P. 7J who scored a valiant 19/20 in the quiz and congratulations to our phenomenal first-place winner Leo W. 10B who identified all the emojis correctly (aptly dressed as Holly Smale’s Geek Girl Harriet Manners). Our winner and runner ups have all gone away with tokens to spend at WH Smith.
