Duke of Edinburgh

Embark on the Duke of Edinburgh Award at St John Bosco Arts College!

At St John Bosco Arts College, we are thrilled to offer our students the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award. This program is a remarkable adventure, helping young people broaden their horizons and face new challenges.

About the Duke of Edinburgh Award

The DofE Award consists of four sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition. These sections encourage students to commit to personal growth and community involvement:

  • Volunteering: Give back to the community and make a difference.

  • Physical: Enhance your fitness and overall well-being.

  • Skills: Develop new talents or refine existing ones.

  • Expedition: Plan and undertake adventurous journeys.

The Bronze Award takes a minimum of 6 months to complete, while the Silver Award requires at least 12 months. Through these activities, students demonstrate commitment, responsibility, and a strong sense of community.

Previous Expeditions and Awards

In the summer of 2023, St. John Bosco embarked on its inaugural Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) expedition, with 25 students signing up for the Bronze Award. Impressively, 22 of them went on to achieve the award.

Fast forward to spring/summer 2024, 11 of those successful Bronze Award winners took on their next challenge: the Silver Award. To earn this, the students completed three different walks around Rivington and spent two nights camping. The walks took them around the reservoir, through fields, and across moorland. Each evening, the girls set up their tents and cooked their own meals. They returned to the campsite in high spirits, feeling a great sense of accomplishment at having completed their expedition.

This year also saw 31 new students enrolling for the Bronze Award, with 23 of them successfully achieving it.
