Entry Requirements

You should be a graduate, preferably with a 1st or a 2:1, though we are willing to consider strong applicants with a 2:2 who can demonstrate an aptitude for teaching. For certain shortage subjects a third-class degree may be considered for exceptional candidates. You must have a degree in which at least 50% of the content is the subject you want to train to teach. You must also have GCSE in Mathematics and English Language Grade C/4 (or equivalent) or above.

We are looking to recruit and develop trainees who will become outstanding teachers and are able to raise the expectations of children and their families within these communities, thereby improving lifelong opportunities for them.

We are committed to spotting talent for future leadership roles, and we promote succession planning to ensure progression opportunities. This starts during the recruitment process, continues throughout our training programme and on into employment.

How we select

St John Bosco Arts College is the lead school in the partnership and co-ordinates the recruitment process.

The process includes:

• Teaching a 20-minute lesson on a pre-given topic;

• A short, written test for literacy;

• A 5-minute presentation on “My Inspiration to Teach”

• A small panel interview and

• A written reflection of your lesson.

Sight of all required certificates and qualifications will need to be submitted ahead of the date of interview via email.

You will be told in advance about the content of the lesson and the age group you will be teaching. Our University partner, Liverpool Hope University, will be involved throughout and will have an equal say in the selection. If your placement is at another school in the partnership, staff from that school may also be involved. It is a rigorous and thorough process, designed to get the best match of applicant to the places available and to further strengthen the teaching profession. We also believe that this is a two-way process, allowing candidates the chance to confirm that teaching is the right career path for them.
