Curriculum Intent

We believe that students deserve a broad and ambitious performing arts curriculum, rich in skills and knowledge, which ignites curiosity and prepares them well for future learning or employment. The performing arts are fundamental to the growth and development of all students. Our performing arts curriculum will give students the opportunity to:

  • Develop theoretical studies through practice and also develop inter-personal and transferable life-long skills.

  • The performing arts curriculum is meticulously planned to be accessible to all with stretch and challenge embed throughout.

  • The curriculum considers the needs of a child holistically, developing social and communication skills as well as the pedagogical knowledge and understanding within each specific subject.

  • Progression is ensured through the scheme of works, which introduce key vocabulary, skills, and techniques through genre based work.

  • The Salesian ethos of the school is at the heart of our practice, as students are nurtured through a supportive, respectful learning environment.

  • Develop their cross-curricular skills of problem solving, perseverance, diligence, team work, time management, organisation, responsibility and cultural history

  • The curriculum is based around providing students with the knowledge of the main components within the Performing Arts. Creativity, performance skills and confidence are built through a plethora of experiences both in and out of the classroom.
