Health and Social Care

"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." ~ Colossians 3:12

The Health and Social Care department endeavours to fulfil the school mission by providing an ambitious and relevant curriculum. Our curriculum is designed to support students to flourish into well-rounded individuals, who have a love for and respect the world around them.

We hope to inspire and empower our students to have the faith to make a positive, meaningful difference in the lives of others and contribute to the wellbeing of communities.

Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum is designed to provide students with essential, specialist knowledge of the health and social care sectors, whilst also developing transferable skills which will contribute to their personal development and encourage them to be caring of the people and world around us.

Students will develop a holistic understanding of health and social care, encompassing physical, intellectual, emotional and social wellbeing. Our curriculum explores these in detail and encourages recognition of complex factors which can influence an individual’s health and quality of life.

Students will deepen their knowledge of the Care Values, attitudes and key skills within health and social care, making use of case studies to practice applying them. We encourage students to explore ethical dilemmas, cultural considerations and the importance of maintaining confidentiality, dignity and respect in their interactions with others.

Extra-Curricular Enrichment and Visits

There are a number of visits and opportunities students can access throughout their time at St John Bosco Arts College. This includes visits to universities and health care settings, to help to show students opportunities available to them.

We work closely with the work experience and careers teams to provide students with a multitude of experiences and opportunities which enable them to see what working in Health and Social Care is like, whilst also showing our students the variety of opportunities and career pathways available.
